Cold Water Storage Tank Replacement
Problem
A main MoD Contractor faced a critical issue with their aging cold water tank. A failure in the internal wall had compromised its integrity, and a change in building usage meant the existing water storage capacity was now excessive. The building remained in constant use throughout the week, meaning any disruption to the water supply was unacceptable.

Solution
Working closely with the MoD Contractor, we developed a tailored solution. The project required a quick turnaround: the entire removal and replacement process had to be completed between the close of business on Friday and before the start of business on Monday. This demanded tight coordination and efficient execution from both our mechanical and water hygiene teams.
The plan was as follows:
Friday Night: Our team worked late into the evening to carefully cut out the old tank, ensuring all health and safety measures were followed. This was a complex task due to the size of the tank and its location within the building.
Saturday: The new sectional tank was moved into the designated area in the loft plant room of a multi-storey building—a process that required precision and careful handling. The team then assembled the new tank according to the manufacturer’s specifications, ensuring its structural integrity and compliance with safety standards.
Sunday: The existing pipework was modified to connect to the new tank, with minimal disruption to the building’s operations. Following these adjustments, all new pipework was lagged and insulated to optimise efficiency and prevent heat loss. Finally, the water hygiene phase was executed, with thorough disinfection of the new tank and pipework to ensure the water supply met all safety and compliance regulations.
The Outcome
Despite the complexity and tight deadlines, the project was completed successfully with no disruption to the client’s operations. This project highlights our ability to work efficiently under pressure and deliver high-quality results, even in the most challenging circumstances.
